Astrid Heartwood

“She knew herself, and there’s a fearsome power in that. Knowing exactly who you are, and exactly what you’re capable of, and be willing to bare your heart to the world.”

Description

Astrid wasn't a very sturdy-looking Hyur. Instead, a slender girl, she has a surprising radiance, though suitably hyperthermic traits warmed those around her. Astrid's skin; sun-kissed and mostly unblemished. Her recent adventures have earned the Girl a few stripes. There were a few more prominent scars, a circular marking near her right shoulder where a bandit had shot her. Another wound in the Girl's flesh ran along the left side of her abdomen, cutting diagonally from near her armpit toward her hip.Astrid is a slender, wispy girl. No taller than five fulms of height and approximately ninety-five ponze in weight. She is a small-breasted girl. Her torso is upright and proud, which she accentuates by tilting her body backward at her shoulders like a soldier. At best, the Girl has a dancer's body shape. Very trim and lean looking. She doesn't find herself all that attractive, being what most would consider "a plank." Despite her lack of muscle, she's relatively flexible and quick. She tends to be graceful when it counts.Astrid's physiognomy was slender, with moderate to high cheekbones, which gave her a youthful look. Her nose is sloped, pointed slightly upward at the tip, and Her hair waves of ginger, loosely framing her face. At times, mainly when she knows she is about to get in a fight, she binds it back into a tight bun. Otherwise, her hair is let down and unburdened by any fastenings. Her gaze was aloof, half-lidded, and teeming with wild gleams of youth. Rich tide pools edging between an ocean blue or a dark old-growth green. Her expressions were bright and cheerful, mirroring the Girl's personality. Her smiles sway from tawdry to terse, and her mirthless witticisms and deceptive indecision to cordial commentary suggest that occasional broad, impish grin was far more fitting a tell for her exact preference in friendliness and her outgoing nature. Her stomach was flat, devoid of any excess weight. Her hips curved outward and only a bit. Enough to provide a more feminine feature to the otherwise tiny Girl. Her rear, pert and heart-shaped, and her thighs were slender and trim. Astrid's hands and feet mirrored the rest of her proportions, soft and lean. The Hyur appears to be a front-line fighter. A rather baffling, if not somewhat hilarious, display. With the plate, chainmail, and a rather impressive-looking sword strapped to her hip. How does the squirt even manage to hold her own? A mystery of Eorzea indeed!

Background

Astrid was orphaned at an incredibly young age. Dropped off at the Orphanage in Limsa Lominsa at around the age of one. She knows next to nothing about her family or even her heritage other than her surname, as it was inscribed on a small necklace she had on when placed before the doorstep.Around the age of ten, Astrid decided it was time to leave the Orphanage. She ran off into the city, never to be seen by her caretakers again. The Girl mostly raised herself with the assistance of strangers she met throughout her journey.
She eventually learned how to hunt and found she had a knack for singing and playing the lute. She cashed in on her skills, earning herself enough Gil for her day to day requirements.
Over a year ago, Astrid enlisted in the Ashen Oathsworn, a group of mercenaries seeking to make Eorzea a better place. She's found a home with them. Many of whom she considers family and would do anything for them. She's grown, her energy channeled into a productive force to be reckoned with. Now dubbed a Justicar for the Oathsworn Astrid made it her own personal mission to see to the mental health of the people within the Oathsworn. It's a difficult job, but she believes her positive attitude, optimistic outlook, and her ability to sit (not still) beside those she cares about and let them talk will prove invaluable for helping those struggling to pull themselves out of despair.Astrid, more recently, had begun uncovering her own family heritage. She knows whatever she uncovers doesn't define who she is as a person, but she's curious, and slowly she's begun unearthing information about her family. She's learned her actual surname is Wolfe, and her parents hail from Ishgard. Her mother was a Noblewoman, while her Father was a House Guard. Their union was a secret and shunned by her Mother's house. Astrid sought to meet some of her family, though her own Grandmother attacked her. Seemingly the only relative she's currently aware of. Amidst one of her trips to Ishgard, she stumbled across her source of Aether, allowing the Hyur to use magic to the fullest extent now. Untrained and unfocused, the girl's wild magic is like a ticking time bomb. Sooner or later, the wrong person is going to get burnt.

Aegis is a sizeable black mastiff with a white tummy. More known for strength and stamina rather than its speed. The formidable creature is two and a half fulms in height. Its powerful muscular body usually hides under thick, soft slate fur. Aegis' eyes are a pale icy-blue hue. The beast is fiercely loyal to its owner and would even growl or attack many who tried to approach him without Astrid nearby. While Astrid is around, he's tamer, calmer and thoughtful. The beast has a strange aura about him, it's as if he understands spoken words better than any normal hound should.

History of House Heartwood (Blackwood) Part 1The Surname Heartwood (formerly blackwood) was a locational name meaning "Of the heart of the wood" typically belonging to early tribes of Hyur in the Black Shroud. The Heartwood tribe made their home around a great oak tree, considered to be the true center of the Western Shroud, near Silver Tear Falls. This Tribespeople easily integrated into society during the founding of Gridania in 1077 of the Sixth Astra Era.Unfortunately, many of these Hyur passed away during the plague of 1322 the Creeping Death. In 1327, it was confirmed that there was to be only one survivor of the Heartwood family name, Godwald Heartwood. Upon his recovery, Godwald offered his services to the Seedseer Council, until his death in a battle with the Ixal in 1363. After this battle, God's Quiver was formed in the honor of many fallen warriors and for future protection.Godwald's wife, Estrid would recluse into hiding in the forest abroad, before returning to Gridania sometime later with their progeny. Godwald and Estrid had a single heir Alrek Heartwood, who would later join the God's Quiver and be knited.During Alrek's campaign, he would earn many medals of recognition for various feats and victories in the ongoing power struggle between the Ixal tribes and Gridania. Alrek would retire during his mother's ailing years. The lamb was chosen as the family crest out of respect for his father's gentleness and patience for those around him. The lamb carries the heartwood tribal flag out of remembrance.Alrek chose a lion for himself citing his own dauntless courage in battle. It would not be until 1455 that the acorn tree would be added by Hendina Heartwood, who believed the forest planted hope in her family line to live and prosper.
